On Feb 6, 2014, Jeanie Carter presented a workshop for Fox Hills Music Teachers Association (FHMTA), an affilitate of ISMTA and MTNA. Most of the members in this professional group teach piano, but occasionally they are called upon to accompany or coach young singers who are preparing for performances or competitions. Because they are not trained vocalists, the teachers needed some quick, effective tips that could help students polish up their songs in a short period of time. All the concepts and techniques presented were “tried and true,” based on years of teaching and performing different musical styles. Everyone really seemed to appreciate the practicality of what was discussed. (It was a lively group with lots of great questions!) For more detail, see the speaking notes: vocal-pedagogy-tips-that-work-fhmta-program.
